FAQs & helpful info for the weekend
How will the shuttles work on Sunday?
We are going to have a shuttle at each hotel (one at the Proper, one at the Hyatt) on Sunday. They will be arriving at the hotels at 4:15p, and departing for the wedding venue at 4:30p. Please try to get on early so that they can depart on time!
At the wedding, there will be an early shuttle going back to the hotels (at 9:30p), and a late shuttle at the end of the night (at 11:00p). Also, as a reminder, Ubers/Lyfts should be pretty easy to get all night.
Where can I watch the OSU-UT football game?
For anyone coming into town that is interested in watching the game, you have a few options. If you are a UT fan, just about any sports bar in the city will be showing the game. If you are an Ohio State fan, the alumni bar is on 6th street downtown, it’s called Woody’s. Just a warning that the bar is mainly outdoors, and it will be absolutely packed during the game. For anyone that wants a slightly more chill experience, we’ll be hosting folks at our house, and anyone is welcome to stop by to watch (just know that it will likely be 95% OSU fans). Our address is 1306 Falcon Cove, Austin, TX 78745 - it’s about a 12-15 minute drive from the hotels. Text Kunal (206 351 7665) if you have any questions!
I don’t know Austin very well. What are some things for us to do while we’re there?
There is lots to do in Austin! As a starting point, here are some of our recommendations:
Food —
Austin is known for it’s tacos (especially breakfast tacos), so be sure to check out some of the options in town (especically food trucks…there are too many to name, but we tend to like Veracruz.)
BBQ Joints - the most famous are Franklin Barbecue and Terry Blacks (both good options, but be prepared for a wait). Some others worth checking out are Leroy & Lewis and La Barbecue.
Other places we love - Jeffrey’s and J Carvers (for a classic steakhouse/martini vibe), Red Ash (great steaks and pasta), Clark’s (seafood bar), and Uchiko (for sushi).
Bars —
On the low-key, casual, dive-y side, we like Kelly’s Irish Pub, Deep Eddy Cabaret, Donn’s Depot, and Casino South Side.
For a more upscale, cocktail situation, there are worth checking out - Here nor There, Trona, Roosevelt Room, Small Victory, Garage.
Other Activities —
There are plenty of walking/hiking trails worth checking out - the trail around Lady Bird Lake, the views at Mount Bonnell, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt.
Zilker Park - the home of Austin’s ACL music festival, Zilker is a great park to spend some time in.
Barton Springs Pool - Within Zilker Park lies one of the crown jewels of Austin: Barton Springs Pool. The pool itself measures three acres in size, and is fed from underground springs with an average temperature of 68-70 degrees, ideal for year-round swimming.
What time is everything happening again?
